Stettin - Town in the country
The town of Stettin is situated at the estuary of the Oder and the Baltic Sea (via the Stettin lagoon) - capital of the Wojewodschaft Westpommern. Stettin is a town with a tradition covering more than thousands of years and a varied history. Today, Stettin is one of the biggest towns of Poland with more than 420,000 inhabitants.
Someone who travels to the city centre from Stettin over the Oder bridges, can see the solid building of the Gothic Cathedral towering over the town and the light grey silhouette of the renaissance castle of the Pommerian dukes with its green spires. The castle of Stettin is one of the largest cultural centres in Westpommern. Rebuilt after being destroyed during the war it became the seat of several official departments and cultural facilities, including the culture centre "Castle of the Pommerian Dukes".
The name "Town in the Country" was rightly given to Stettin. Besides the large park in the centre, Stettin is embedded in large forest woodlands. Not far from the town you will find the most beautiful forests. The lifeline of the town, the water, invites you to come sailing, rowing and other types of watersports.
You will find an extensive guided tour of Stettin with descriptions and photos on the Internet page of the culture and tourist information in the castle of the Pommerian dukes (CIKiT) under www.zamek.szczecin.pl.
